Behind The Scenes with Modern Out

Behind The Scenes with Modern Out

Making men’s jewelry the right way is not always the easy way. And honestly, we are fine with that.

While our pieces are not fully forged in house, we have worked for over a decade with trusted partners in New England who specialize in premium steel. These are the people with the massive machines, high-heat ovens, and deep experience required to forge stainless steel. From PVD coating to 18k gold and black oxide plating, this work demands precision, space, and skill.

Our partners also produce our pendant designs in small batches. That matters. Small batch production gives us tighter product control and consistency, instead of relying on mass runs where quality can easily drift. Steel is dense, unforgiving, and impossible to hand sculpt the way sterling silver can be. It has to be shaped using intense heat and molds, and there is no way to shortcut that process.

Once those components are complete, everything is shipped to our warehouse in Louisiana. This is where our hands take over.

Every single piece is inspected by us. Lobster clasps, jump rings, chain rolls, pendants, and charms all get checked one by one. We also hand cut about 95 percent of our chain necklaces and bracelets in house, sizing and finishing them individually before assembly. Everything is hand assembled and made to order right here.

We test thousands of lobster clasps, opening and closing them again and again. Our fingers get sore and cracked, but that process is worth it. It ensures every piece that leaves our warehouse meets the same standard.

Are we perfect? No. We are human. Sometimes things slip through the cracks. When they do, we stand behind our products and make it right.

Many other brands take a very different route. They rely on overseas factories to mass produce their jewelry, then ship everything to third-party fulfillment centers that handle products for hundreds of companies at once. There is little to no hands-on inspection, and quality control is not the focus.

We skip all of that. We do it ourselves. It adds hours in the warehouse, but it allows us to maintain control and keep our pricing fair because we are not sharing margins with outside shipping facilities.

From product design and small batch production to inspection, hand cutting, assembly, photography, website maintenance, customer service, order management, and shipping, it all happens here. It is more work. It is more personal. And it is exactly how we want it.
