Here is the Best Entertainment of 2022 list by Modernish. When it comes to entertainment I am a thrill junkie. I am also an emotion junkie. I want to be taken for an emotional ride. I want to feel something whether it be fear or sadness. If I am able to consume what I am watching, listening to, or reading and the whole world around me doesn’t exist for hours at a time, then you are considered a great source of entertainment. There were a lot, and I mean a lot, of TV shows and movies that came out this year. Being a business owner, I am lucky to even have some downtime to indulge in these types of entertainment. In the office, we are consistently listening to Podcasts and Albums while we work so that is one great perk when working for Modern Out. Have I watched every movie and TV show, read every book and listened to every podcast that came out in 2022? Not even close. But here are the ones that stood out to me.
Best Movie of 2022
Deep Water
Since I haven’t seen Avatar: The Way Of The Water just yet, this movie will have to do. Now I know this isn’t a popular choice. And some of you may have forgotten this movie even came out earlier this year. But Deep Water sent me on a thrill ride that I could not get enough of. It was dark, sexy, and the best part: mysterious. If you love a good crime story (many of us do) then this movie is definitely for you. I promise. If you’ve watched it on Hulu and don’t really remember it, give it another try. Not only are the actors amazing in it, but I am very fond of New Orleans where this movie was filmed. I am so happy to see more and more movies come back to film in Louisiana.

Best Show of 2022
The White Lotus: Season 2
Ok. This show. Was amazing. I've watched more shows this year than anything else so this list was hard narrow down. But not one single show engulfed me entirely the way The White Lotus: Season 2 did. I absolutely loved the first season and I was excited when I heard a second one was coming. When I saw the trailer, I was skeptical at first - I didn’t think it could live up to the first season. Boy, was I wrong. Just like my movie choice above, it was dark, sexy, mysterious AND hilarious. I felt all the emotions with this show and it’s so hard for me to not spoil anything so trust me when I say you do not want to miss this show. Also, please watch season 1 if you haven’t yet. Even though majority of season 2 has different characters and story lines, there are still some important notes you need to know before watching the new season. I will be rewatching this season all over again… and again.

Best Album of 2022
Midnights (3AM Edition) by Taylor Swift
Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve listened to Midnights by Taylor Swift. Yes, this is so mainstream of me. But this album is GOOD. Good enough for me to listen to it over 20 times. Remember when I said it’s important to take me on an emotional ride? Well this album does that. It makes me sad, it makes me happy, it makes me revengeful when I have nothing to be revengeful about. My favorite tracks on this album (which is extremely hard to narrow down) are Bejeweled, Bigger Than The Whole Sky, You’re On Your Own Kid, and Vigilante Shit. Not many albums these days come out with tons of “single worthy” tracks. Midnights by Taylor Swift does! In fact, every song on the album is my favorite, but those were the ones I put on repeat so it must mean they’re my “favorite favorite” or whatever you want to call it. And no, I was not able to get tickets to the Eras Tour. If you have extras, hit me up.

Best Podcast of 2022
Crime Junkie Podcast
Southern accent: Y’all, this Podcast is addicting. As you may already know from this list, I am - in fact - a crime junkie. I love a good mystery and thriller. It’s hard to listen to other true crime podcasts because this one does it so well. Not only do they entertain you, but they do good in the world. Crime Junkie Podcast helps to raise money for DNA testing and bringing justice and closure to families who feel hopeless and lost for cases that go cold and unsolved. This podcast will be hard to beat every year so you may see this on my top list for 2023 as well. Go give it a listen if you haven’t already. They put out new shows every week.
Best Book of 2022
Verity by Colleen Hoover
So technically this book came out in 2018, but it became extremely popular this year thanks to social media. I am not alone in the world, so many people love a good mystery and this book doesn’t stray away from that. And yes, this book is also sexy - but whatever. The author, Colleen Hoover, is actually from the same area as me. Her writing style is easy to read and doesn’t dig too deep into the finer details. A lot of books have wasted space with a lot of fluff, but Colleen get’s to the point. Give this book a try if you haven’t already. She even came out with an extended edition this year - so I guess a 2022 list technically works for this book.
